Two-Phase Treatment

Why can’t I just wait to do the treatment after all of my permanent teeth are in? The answer is complex, and that is why Dr. Neal would like to see all patients who are 7 and up. Two-phase orthodontic treatment is not for every patient. Two-phase treatment is a specialized process combining tooth straightening and physical, and facial changes. The purpose of two-phase treatment is to maximize the opportunity to accomplish the ideal healthy, functional, aesthetic result that will remain stable throughout your life.

Phase I

Phase 1 starts any time between age 7-10 and will take 9-12 months. There is then a “rest” period where Dr. Neal will continue to evaluate your child and their development. Retainers will usually be worn during this period of time.

Phase II

The 2nd phase will usually start when all baby teeth are lost and will consist of either Invisalign or traditional braces. For most kids this is typically around 12-14 years of age.
